Gait and Balance Program

We are a multi-specialty group with different providers such as our Doctors of Physical Therapy who specialize in treatments for gait and balance problems.

Our unique Balance & Gait Program has helped many people and gives you an opportunity to be evaluated for any abnormalities in your walking patterns. We can assess if you need an assistive device such a cane or a walker; if you already have one, then we can help by appropriately sizing it to be the perfect fit for you.

This program can help a wide range of people from geriatrics to athletes. We can work on fall prevention for the geriatric population and even perform running analysis utilizing videos for the athletic population.

The primary goal of a Balance & Gait Program is to enhance an individual’s ability to maintain an upright posture and move safely while walking. This is particularly important for those who may be experiencing challenges due to aging, neurological conditions, musculoskeletal issues, or injuries. The program often begins with a thorough assessment of the individual’s current functional abilities, identifying specific areas of weakness or impairment.

The program typically includes a combination of targeted exercises, functional activities, and mobility drills. These exercises are designed to strengthen muscles, improve joint flexibility, and enhance overall coordination. For individuals with neurological conditions, such as Parkinson’s disease or stroke survivors, the program may incorporate exercises specifically tailored to address the unique challenges associated with these conditions.

Gait training is a crucial component of the program, focusing on improving the quality of walking patterns. This may involve practicing various walking techniques, such as heel-to-toe walking, side-stepping, and navigating obstacles. Assistive devices, if needed, are also integrated into the program to provide additional support and aid in maintaining balance.

Regular progress assessments are conducted throughout the program to track improvements and modify the intervention as needed. Education on fall prevention strategies and home exercises is often included to empower individuals to continue their progress independently.

Ultimately, a well-executed Balance & Gait Program not only enhances physical abilities but also contributes to increased confidence and independence for individuals with balance and gait challenges. By addressing these fundamental aspects of mobility, the program plays a vital role in improving overall quality of life.
