Injections for Pain

There is a time when injections for pain are the correct treatment. We have a medical injectiondoctor on our staff, and when it is called for we provide that type of treatment at Advanced Medical of Florida. Of course, we prefer to provide treatment to avoid surgery and injections.

The Good News:

The corticosteriod injections have shown to reduce the pain caused by inflammation. They also have a positive effect on the immune function by reducing inflammatory cells.

The Bad News

The injections can slow the healing process. Also they can contribute to accelerated joint degeneration and inhibit collagen repair. This type of treatment has been overprescribed for tendinosis.

If you have a painful joint condition, it is best you come in to our office and let us evaluate your condition. If possible, we will see if we can treat you without drugs, injections or surgery.

Avoiding Surgery

At Advanced Medical of Florida, we are very passionate about treatment as an alternativerunner with pain to surgery. There are a whole lot of reasons for that.

A natural cure is always preferable to a surgical one. Surgery can have complications. Surgery can have long recovery periods. This may be a problem with your job. This can be a problem if you live alone. This may be a problem if you don’t have the best insurance, or worse yet, no insurance at all. And who wants to have a long period of recovery anyway.

Some surgeries may not have long lasting results, so you might be looking at additional surgeries down the road a bit.

For back problems, shoulder problems, knee problems, and anything along that line, why not come in for an evaluation before you rush into surgery. What do you have to lose? If your situation warrants it, we can have the appropriate x-rays taken, and if surgery is the best choice, we will be the first to advise you of that.

We have a long list of testimonials from people who have successfully avoided surgery. Hopefully, we can add you to the list.

What is Interventional Pain Management?

Interventional pain management is a discipline in pain management. The goal is to help patients relieve their pain. These pain doctors look beyond medication to help someone deal with pain. They rely instead on a vast array of therapies to help diagnose, reduce, and if possible, completely relieve a person’s pain.

For example, a patient may receive technology guided injections, along with specialized physical therapy to address the root cause of the issue. The ultimate goal is to help a patient get back to their best life. Often, doctors do this by helping patients return to their normal activities as quickly as possible.

Interventional pain management is generally used when pain is severe enough to interfere with daily activities and other treatments have not been successful in reducing pain. If you’re in pain, interventional pain management may help you reduce your pain and get your life back.

Physical Therapy to Avoid Surgery

While surgery is sometimes the only way to treat a physical condition, the more conservative approach is to first try physical therapy. If physical therapy eliminates your pain or helps you heal from injury, there may be no need for surgery. And, if you do need to undergo surgery, pre-surgical physical therapy can often put you into better physical condition to withstand the surgery, and possibly help provide a better recovery outcome.

SURGERY AND OTHER INVASIVE PROCEDURES CARRY RISKS

The fact is, anytime an invasive procedure is performed on a patient, there are risks. Although the exact risks often depend on the exact type of surgery you are having, here are just a few general risks surgery exposes you to:

·        Whenever your body is cut open, it exposes you to the possibility of infection

·        Bleeding problems can occur during surgery

·        Blood clots can be caused by surgery

·        Occasionally, complications from the anesthesia may occur if the patient has a reaction to   anesthesia drugs.

·        Anesthesia can cause aspiration, or breathing food or fluid into the lungs. This can be serious.

·        Anesthesia can cause elevated heart rate and blood pressure in some patients during surgery

PHYSICAL THERAPY BENEFITS

Physical therapy has long been used as a conservative treatment before surgery is considered. Now, medical studies are showing that physical therapy can sometimes be as effective as surgery:

·        Studies have shown that physical therapy can be as effective as surgery in providing pain relief for some lower back conditions, such as spinal stenosis.

·        Physical Therapy has been found to successfully treat patients suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome

As more studies are completed, many doctors believe physical therapy may provide a non-invasive method of treatment for many patients, allowing them to avoid surgery.

PHYSICAL THERAPY HELPS YOUR BODY HEAL ITSELF

Our bodies are designed to heal themselves of certain conditions, given the proper treatment options and nutrition. Surgery should rarely be the only treatment offered, unless it is an emergency situation.

Doctors are recognizing that physical therapy treatment plans are effectively helping their patients. Part of this is because treatment plans can be custom-designed for the patient’s individual goals, needs, and challenges.

As researchers discover the positive impact of physical therapy on patients’ conditions, instead of undergoing surgery, more doctors are recommending physical therapy, first, as a non-invasive, more gentle way of healing the body.

One Bay area doctor’s office decided to give back to those nurses by gifting free lunches to six local hospitals.

“During these challenging times, our team came to together and asked ourselves what can we do to help out our community,” shared Dr. Brett Reuter of Advanced Medical of Florida. “(We had) the idea of taking care of the real heroes in this situation.”

Dr. Reuter’s office teamed up with like-minded businesses to thank the nurses.

“We chose two local restaurants and we even got our thank you cards at a local printing shop,” he said.

Seminole Subs & Gyros provided sub sandwich platers, Bro’s Pizza and Bar provided pizzas, and the cards came from Century Printing & Design.

“They wanted to join the ‘pay it forward’ movement in their own way,” Reuter commented.

They provided lunches for nurses at Largo Medical Center, Tampa General Hospital, AdventHealth North Pinellas in Tarpon Springs, Bayfront in Pinellas Park, St. Anthony’s Hospital, and Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg.

“We are grateful for all front line workers and especially people in healthcare,” Reuter said. “Thank you for everything you do.”
